Sextet américain de Gospel et de chant A Cappella, Take 6 est fondé en 1980. L’histoire du groupe commence en 1980, lorsque Claude McKnight fonde « The Gentlemen's Estates Quartet », un quartet de chant A Cappella. Il fait alors passer des auditions pour recruter d’autres membres. La formation, qui s’enrichie des talents de Mark Kibble et Mervyn Warren, chante régulièrement dans les églises. En 1985, certains membres du groupe partent et sont remplacés par Alvin Chea, Cedric Dent, et David Thomas. En 1987, ils signent un contrat sous le label Warner Brothers et se rebaptisent Take 6. Leur premier album éponyme sort un an plus tard. Le groupe a beaucoup de succès. Leur dernier album « The Standarts » sorti en 2008 est nominé aux Grammy Awards : leur 19ème nomination. Take 6 se forge une identité musicale qui entrelace le chant religieux du Gospel aux genres Rhythm & Blues et Jazz. Les membres actuels sont Alvin Chea, Cedric Dent, Joey Kibble, Mark Kibble, Claude V. McKnight III et David Thomas.
