Calvin Richardson est né en Caroline du Nord, à Monroe, où il grandit dans un univers très musical avec une mère à la tête d’un groupe de gospel. Quand il ne chante pas, il écoute du jazz, du gospel et du rhythm & blues : Sam Cooke, Bobby Womack, Otis Redding, Donny Hathaway, The Gap Band,…

C’est en chantant dans les circuits gospels de l’état que Calvin Richardson rencontre Cédric et Joel Heiley avec lesquels il forme le trio Jodeci (Tommy Boy Records), qui obtiendra un grand succès dans les années 90.

 

En 2010 sort son cinquième album  American Most Wanted .
