La compilation funk qui réchauffe notre hiver : “Wanna Do My Thing – The Complete President Recordings”

Terminer le mois de janvier en beauté avec la compilation afro-funk kenyane de Matata.

Formé en 1963 par Jeik Kalunga Loksa, le groupe Matata regroupe 9 musiciens et chanteurs de funk, composé d’Anwar Richard, Gabby Wamala, Jacques Kalunga, John Otieno, Nashon Gandani, Patrice Oluma, Sammy Kagenda, Steeleson Beauttah, Tobby Kombo.

La compilation se nomme « Wanna Do My Thing – The Complete President Recordings » et a été produite par RPM Records sous le label de Cherry Red Records Ltd). On y retrouve le CD « Matata Air Fiesta » composé de 15 morceaux et le CD « Independance » de 16 morceaux, qui sont aux noms de leurs deux premiers albums, parus respectivement en 1972 et 1974, sur le label President Record.

31 titres qui s’inspirent incontestablement l’univers ryhtmique de James Brown, et qui rappellent le style de C.S Crew avec leur unique album « Funky Pack ».
